Bicycle Accidents in New Jersey

Fatal bicycle accidents like this recent one underscore how devastating these crashes can be. Large commercial vehicles such as landscaping trucks, tractor-trailers, and delivery vehicles create a significant risk to pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers. Even at lower speeds, the size and weight of a truck can cause catastrophic injuries or wrongful death when collisions occur.
In New Jersey, hundreds of people are hurt or killed each year in this type of accident. Common causes of these accidents include distracted driving, speeding, driver fatigue, and visibility issues. For young bicyclists, even a momentary lapse in awareness at an intersection can result in tragedy.
Victims and families affected by bicycle accidents may have the right to seek legal compensation through a wrongful death claim. An experienced wrongful death attorney can help families understand their options and pursue claims for:
- Funeral and burial expenses – These costs can place a heavy financial burden on grieving families. Compensation can help cover arrangements so loved ones can focus on healing rather than bills.
- Medical costs for treatment before death – Many victims receive emergency medical care before passing. Families may be left with significant hospital and ambulance bills, which can be recovered through a legal claim.
- Loss of income and financial support – When the deceased contributed to the household, families may lose vital income. A claim can address the loss of financial stability and future earnings.
- Pain, suffering, and emotional trauma – Beyond financial damages, families endure immense grief and emotional hardship. Compensation may help acknowledge this suffering and provide resources for counseling or support.
Holding negligent drivers, trucking companies, or other responsible parties accountable can provide families with justice and help prevent future accidents.
