Newport, NY (October 2, 2025) – A 59-year-old Utica man, Rodney K. Dodge, tragically lost his life in a head-on collision on Butler Road in Newport on September 30.
According to New York State Police, the crash occurred just after 9:15 p.m. when a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 32-year-old Jordan F. Doxtader of Newport, lost control while navigating a sharp curve. The vehicle crossed into the westbound lanes and collided head-on with a 2024 Ford Transit Connect driven by Rodney K. Dodge.
Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of the crash. One passenger in the Ford, Dale R. Dodge, 27, also of Utica, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Wynn Hospital in Utica for treatment.
Doxtader, who was alone in his vehicle, was airlifted by Mercy Flight Helicopter to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. Fortunately, his injuries were determined not to be life-threatening.
The crash remains under investigation by New York State Police to determine the cause of the accident.
