Clifton, NJ – Woman Killed in Suspected Hit-and-Run on Rte 21 N

Clifton, NJ (October 7, 2025) – A young woman tragically lost her life this weekend in what police believe to be a hit-and-run accident on Route 21 North in Clifton.

At approximately 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 5, officers responded to a call about an unresponsive woman found along the roadside. When police arrived, they discovered 20-year-old Kamaya Young of Paterson lying near the northbound lanes. Emergency personnel quickly responded but sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities stated that evidence collected at the site included several pieces of a vehicle scattered on the roadway close to where Young’s body was found. Investigators believe these fragments may help identify the car involved in the crash. At this time, no suspect vehicle has been located, and police have not made any arrests.

The investigation into this heartbreaking incident is ongoing, and law enforcement urges anyone with information to come forward.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Kamaya Young during this challenging time.

Fatal Hit-and-Run Accidents in New JerseyWoman Killed in Suspected Hit-and-Run on Rte 21 North

Fatal accidents like this recent one highlight the devastating consequences of hit-and-run crashes in New Jersey. When a driver flees the scene, families are left with unanswered questions, overwhelming grief, and financial burdens.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation reports hundreds of fatal crashes occur across the state every year. Hit-and-run accidents represent some of the most tragic cases because victims are denied immediate aid, and families must struggle with the fact that the driver abandoned responsibility.

When families lose a loved one to a hit-and-run, they may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim. Through legal action, families can pursue compensation for:

  • Funeral and burial expenses: Funerals and burial services often cost thousands of dollars, leaving grieving families with unexpected financial strain. A wrongful death claim can help cover these expenses so loved ones can focus on healing rather than worrying about bills.
  • Medical costs prior to death: In some cases, victims receive emergency treatment before passing away, leading to substantial hospital bills. Families may recover these costs to avoid carrying the burden of medical debt caused by the crash.
  • Loss of income and financial support: When the victim contributes to household income, their loss creates long-term financial hardship. Compensation can help replace lost wages and provide stability for dependents who relied on the victim’s support.
  • Emotional suffering and loss of companionship: Beyond financial challenges, families endure profound emotional pain after losing a loved one. Wrongful death claims can recognize this suffering by awarding damages for the loss of companionship, guidance, and emotional support.

Working with an experienced wrongful death lawyer can help families navigate these claims. Attorneys often work closely with investigators to identify the responsible driver, use accident reconstruction experts, and ensure the family’s rights remain protected. A lawyer also helps negotiate with insurance companies, which often try to minimize payouts in these tragic cases.

For families across New Jersey, having strong legal representation can provide both financial relief and a sense of justice after such devastating losses.
