N Babylon, NY – Fatal DUI Crash on Bay Shore Rd & Duke St
North Babylon, NY (August 19, 2024) – A tragic car accident occurred on Sunday night, August 18, in North Babylon, Long Island, resulting in the death of one passenger and serious injuries to another. The driver involved has been arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) as the investigation into the crash continues.
The accident took place at approximately 6:09 p.m. on Bay Shore Road near Duke Street. David Valles, 31, of North Babylon, was behind the wheel of a 1987 Ford Mustang when the vehicle suddenly veered off the road and collided with a utility pole. The impact of the crash was devastating.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find that one male passenger, whose identity has yet to be released, had tragically lost his life. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger, whose name is being withheld until her family is notified, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for urgent medical care. Her condition remains critical.
Valles himself was also injured in the crash, though his injuries were not life-threatening. He was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment. After receiving medical attention, he was arrested and charged with DUI by the Suffolk County Police. The vehicle involved in the crash has been impounded for a thorough safety inspection. Detectives from the Major Case Unit are currently leading the investigation, seeking to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
