Pedestrian Accidents in New York

Pedestrian accidents can result in serious injuries, and unfortunately, Albany is no stranger to these types of incidents. Pedestrians are highly vulnerable when struck by vehicles due to their lack of protection compared to those inside vehicles. The consequences can range from minor injuries to catastrophic harm.
In New York, pedestrian accidents are a growing concern. According to recent statistics, pedestrian fatalities have been steadily increasing across the state. As urban areas like Albany see more traffic, the risk for pedestrians continues to rise, especially near busy intersections and crosswalks.
Here are a few factors that contribute to pedestrian accidents:
- Distracted Drivers: Many pedestrian accidents happen when drivers are texting, talking on the phone, or not paying attention to their surroundings.
- Impaired Driving: Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can significantly reduce a driver’s reaction time and judgment, increasing the risk of collisions with pedestrians.
- Poor Visibility: Inadequate street lighting or obscured crosswalks can make it difficult for both drivers and pedestrians to see each other clearly, particularly at night.
