How Do I Report a Car Accident in New Jersey? Two Injured in Head-On Crash on Hope Rd

If you are involved in a crash in New Jersey, you should report it to local police as soon as possible. State law requires drivers to report any accident that results in injury or death, and in many cases, those involving significant property damage as well. Acting quickly helps create an official record that may be important later.

After a crash, calling 911 brings emergency responders to the scene and begins the official reporting process. Officers will document the incident, gather statements, and prepare a crash report. That report becomes a key piece of documentation if you later file an insurance claim or pursue any legal options. You can also request a copy of the report from the responding agency once it has been filed.

New Jersey operates under a no-fault insurance system, which means your own personal injury protection coverage typically handles initial medical expenses regardless of who caused the accident. However, serious injuries may allow a person to pursue additional compensation beyond no-fault benefits. Keeping thorough records like medical visits, treatment notes, and any correspondence with insurers can help support a claim down the road.

Many people are unsure what steps to take after a head-on collision. Injuries from this type of crash can be serious, and the days following an accident can feel disorganized. A car accident attorney can review police reports, insurance documents, and medical records to help explain what options may be available to you.
