Bridgewater, NJ (July 13, 2023) – One person lost their life, and four others suffered serious injuries in a car accident that happened on the evening of Tuesday, July 11. Emergency crews went to the crash scene at around 7:30 p.m. after receiving calls concerning the wreck. 

According to information from local police, the incident occurred between two vehicles on Interstate 287 near milepost 18.4.  An Infiniti passenger vehicle and a Nissan were both headed south on the interstate when they were involved in a collision. 

Following the initial impact, the Infiniti crossed all lanes, left the right side of the roadway, and drove up an embankment before striking several trees. The driver of the Nissan did not sustain any injuries in the collision. 

The Infiniti driver, a 24-year-old man from Linden, suffered serious injuries. His passenger, Lissanne Reyes Mejia, 35, of Perth Amboy, lost her life in the crash. Three other passengers in the Infiniti were also seriously injured. 

The southbound lanes of Interstate 287 were closed for an extended period of time while emergency crews worked in the area. Authorities in Bridgewater continue to investigate the details of the collision.
