Perth Amboy, NJ (June 5, 2026) – A child died and five other people were injured after an apartment fire early Friday morning, June 5, on Chauncey St in Perth Amboy.
According to Perth Amboy Police, the fire broke out at approximately 2:45 a.m. and affected a multi-unit residential building. Around 26 residents from six apartments were awakened after smoke detectors activated.
Two people sustained burn injuries and were flown to hospitals for treatment. Two first responders suffered minor injuries, and another resident was also reported to have minor injuries. Officials confirmed that one child lost their life as a result of the fire.
Investigators said the heaviest damage appeared to be on one side of the building, and preliminary observations indicated the fire may have originated on the second floor. The identity of the child has not been released.
Fire investigators continue working to determine the cause of the blaze.
