Constantia, NY (September 17, 2025) – A tragic car accident on State Route 49 in Constantia left one person dead and two others injured on the evening of September 15.
According to the New York State Police, the incident occurred around 6:40 p.m. when a 2024 Ford Expedition, driven by 66-year-old Kenneth M. Johnson from Cleveland, NY, veered off the road. The vehicle struck a mailbox on the north side of the highway before continuing westbound. The Ford then crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with a 2010 Toyota Prius, driven by a 39-year-old male from Cleveland, NY.
The force of the impact caused the Ford to veer off the south shoulder, where it struck a tree. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and Johnson was transported to Upstate University Hospital for treatment. His passenger, 53-year-old Lisa A. Demarco, was unharmed in the crash.
However, the 39-year-old driver of the Toyota Prius was critically injured in the collision. He was also transported to Upstate University Hospital, where he tragically passed away from his injuries.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, which remains ongoing.
