Bicycle Accidents in New York
Bicycle accidents in New York often lead to devastating outcomes for cyclists, who are among the most vulnerable road users. Unlike drivers protected by vehicles, bicyclists have little defense against the force of an impact. Busy intersections pose particular dangers due to high traffic volumes, low visibility, and turning vehicles.
Victims of bicycle crashes frequently experience severe and long-lasting injuries. Common types include:
- Head and brain injuries: Even with helmets, cyclists can suffer concussions or traumatic brain injuries from impact.
- Spinal cord damage: Collisions may cause fractures or disc injuries that lead to partial or total paralysis.
- Broken bones: Arms, legs, and ribs are especially vulnerable in a crash.
- Internal injuries: Organ damage and internal bleeding can result from being struck or thrown onto hard surfaces.
- Lacerations and road rash: Abrasions from sliding across pavement often require extensive medical care.
These injuries can lead to high medical costs, time away from work, and emotional distress. Working with an experienced personal injury lawyer can help victims recover compensation for these losses and hold negligent drivers accountable.
