Hurley, NY (September 3, 2025) – A fatal two-vehicle crash in Hurley on Monday evening, September 1, left one person dead and several others injured.
According to the New York State Police, the accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on State Route 209. Investigators said a 2019 Mercedes-Benz was traveling south when the driver attempted to pass another vehicle by crossing into the northbound lane.
At the same time, a pickup truck was traveling north on Route 209. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the truck driver swerved onto the eastside shoulder. However, the Mercedes also entered the shoulder and struck the truck head-on.
The crash caused heavy damage to both vehicles. The driver of the Mercedes, the truck driver, and a truck passenger all managed to exit their vehicles. Unfortunately, a passenger in the Mercedes was trapped inside.
Troopers worked with rescue crews to extricate the passenger, later identified as 25-year-old Sierra Fatima Koren Thornton of Middletown. She was rushed to Kingston Health Alliance Hospital but died from her injuries.
The other three people involved in the crash were transported to Benedictine Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police confirmed that the investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
