Bicycle Accidents in New Jersey
New Jersey has more cyclists each year, especially downtown near busy routes. While bike lanes and traffic plans help, cyclists still face serious risks when cars and bikes share close space. These crashes can happen for many reasons, including:
- Drivers fail to check blind spots before turning or changing lanes.
- People open car doors into bike lanes without looking.
- Drivers speed through intersections or roll past stop signs.
- Distractions from phones or in-car screens pull attention away from the road.
- Poor lighting at dusk makes it harder to see cyclists.
- Delivery vehicles stop or park in bike lanes, forcing riders into traffic.
- Road hazards like potholes or uneven pavement push bikes off a safe line.
Even a low-speed impact can cause major harm to a cyclist. Victims may suffer broken bones, head injuries, spine trauma, or deep cuts. Some injuries take hours or days to feel serious, so medical care right away matters. Cyclists should also save any photos, helmet damage, bike repair estimates, and witness details. This information can help show how the crash happened.
In many bicycle accidents, injured riders may seek compensation for ambulance costs, hospital care, therapy, lost wages, and pain from the recovery. A case can also include future treatment if injuries limit daily life or work.
In a case like this, speaking with a personal injury lawyer can help the injured cyclist understand their options and avoid insurance pressure. A lawyer can collect key evidence, build a clear claim, and pursue payment for medical care, lost income, and the impact of the injuries.
