Manchester, NJ – Three Hurt in Wreck on Rt 70 near Rt 751

Manchester, NJ (April 15, 2024) – Three individuals suffered serious injuries on Monday afternoon, April 15, in Manchester. According to information from reports, the wreck occurred on Route 70 between a pickup truck and a car. John McCarter, age 65, from Brown Mills, was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with injuries to his face and head, according to reports from authorities. Two other victims, identified as Donna Gerhardt, 55, and Casey McCarter, 30, were both transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by ambulance. McCarter and Gerhardt both suffered head injuries, sources said. According to police. McCarter was headed west on Route 70 in a black 2002 Toyota Tundra with John McCarter as a front-seat passenger. Gerhardt was operating a 2008 Mercury Milan headed east on Route 70 when she attempted to turn left onto Route 751 and turned into the path of the Toyota, which struck her vehicle on the passenger side. The impact forced the Mercury off of the road and into a traffic signal post, causing the Toyota to spin. It then came to a stop in the intersection facing east. A preliminary investigation found that failing to yield the right of way was the initial contributing factor. Assisting at the wreck site were EMTs and fire crews from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, Robert Wood Johnson paramedics, firefighters from Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, and Robert wood Johnson LifeFlight.

Police in Manchester continue to investigate the details of the accident.
