Car Accidents in New Jersey Injuries Reported in Two-Car Crash at Newark Ave & Forrest St

A car crash can happen in an instant, but the aftermath can be confusing and stressful. Knowing what to do immediately after an accident can help protect your safety, health, and legal rights. Following the right steps can also make a major difference when filing insurance claims or seeking compensation.

If you are involved in a car accident in New Jersey, here are the steps you should take:

  • Check for injuries and call 911: Your health and safety come first. Check yourself and others for injuries, and call emergency services immediately if anyone is hurt. Never assume injuries are minor—some, like internal bleeding or concussions, may not show symptoms right away.
  • Move to safety: If possible, move vehicles out of traffic to avoid further collisions. Turn on hazard lights to alert other drivers and wait in a safe area until emergency responders arrive.
  • Exchange information: Gather contact, driver’s license, and insurance details from everyone involved. If there are witnesses, collect their names and phone numbers as well.
  • Document the scene: Take photos of the vehicles, damage, road conditions, and any visible injuries. These details are essential for insurance and legal purposes.
  • Get medical attention: Even if you feel fine, visit a doctor after the crash. Some injuries, like whiplash or internal trauma, may not appear immediately.
  • Contact a car accident lawyer: Consulting an attorney ensures that your rights are protected from the start. A lawyer can guide you through the claims process, handle insurance adjusters, and help you recover fair compensation for medical bills, lost income, and pain and suffering.
