Manchester, NJ – One Killed in Fatal Head-On Crash on Rt 539

Manchester, NJ (June 23, 2025) – A 77-year-old man from the Whiting section of Manchester Township tragically lost his life following a head-on crash on Thursday, after suffering a medical emergency while driving on Route 539. The crash took place early in the afternoon and prompted a large emergency response and extended road closure.

According to Manchester police, Danny R. Coleman was behind the wheel of a 2024 Ford Maverick traveling south on Route 539 when he experienced a sudden medical event. His vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and struck a 2016 Toyota Tacoma on the rear driver’s side. The Tacoma, driven by Jose Rodriguez-Morales, 55, of Levittown, Pennsylvania, overturned after the collision and came to rest on the dirt shoulder of the road.

Rodriguez-Morales sustained minor injuries and was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment. His passenger, Jesus Torres, 39, also of Levittown, was uninjured. Both men were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Following the impact, Coleman’s vehicle continued off the roadway, eventually crashing into a tree and coming to a stop in a wooded area. Despite immediate efforts from emergency crews, Coleman succumbed to his injuries.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Danny R. Coleman.

Car Accidents in New Jersey

Data from the New Jersey State Police show that thousands of crashes occur annually due to driver health conditions, distraction, or fatigue. Even with safety features and modern vehicles, tragic outcomes still happen far too often.

When someone loses their life in a crash, surviving families are left to face many challenges. Here are some critical aspects to consider in the aftermath of a fatal accident:

  • Unexpected Funeral Expenses: Families may find themselves facing immediate and significant funeral and burial costs. These expenses can be difficult to manage during an already emotional time, especially when the death was sudden and unanticipated.
  • Loss of Companionship: The emotional impact of losing a loved one in a crash can be immeasurable. Spouses, children, and close relatives often suffer from profound grief and long-term emotional distress.
  • Financial Instability: If the deceased was a primary source of income or contributed significantly to household expenses, the financial burden on the family can be substantial. This may include lost wages, pensions, or benefits.
  • Legal Proceedings and Insurance Claims: Navigating legal matters or insurance claims after a fatal crash can be confusing and draining. Proper legal guidance can help families secure compensation and avoid being overwhelmed by the process.
  • Investigations and Liability: When medical events cause accidents, determining liability can be complex. Investigations are often needed to understand the chain of events and whether external factors played a role.

For families dealing with the loss of a loved one in a vehicle accident, contacting a wrongful death attorney immediately is crucial. Legal professionals can help clarify rights, manage insurance claims, and ensure that all proper steps are taken. Whether the crash involved another driver or was caused by medical circumstances, a compassionate and capable wrongful death attorney can help families find answers and pursue compensation for damages.
