Minivan, Tractor-Trailer Crash on I-80 in Paterson, NJ

July 20, 2026

Paterson, NJ (July 20, 2026) – A minivan and a tractor-trailer were involved in a collision on Monday morning, July 20, on the westbound exit ramp near Exit 58 on I-80 in Paterson.

The New Jersey State Police responded to the ramp after the two vehicles came together, and lanes in both directions of I-80 backed up with major delays as crews worked to clear the area.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and assisted those involved. The full extent of the injuries was not released. It is also not clear how the two vehicles came together.

Authorities continue to actively investigate.

We hope for a full recovery of those involved.

How Truck Collisions on I-80 Can Complicate Injury Claims in Paterson, NJ

Minivan, Tractor-Trailer Crash on I-80

Crashes involving tractor-trailers on I-80 in Paterson tend to raise different legal questions than typical car accidents, partly because of how close the highway runs to connecting routes like Route 20 and local streets such as Broadway near downtown Paterson. Traffic merging from these corridors onto I-80's exit ramps can create tight decision windows for drivers sharing the road with large commercial vehicles.

People involved in a minivan-versus-tractor-trailer collision can face a wide range of injuries, from whiplash and broken bones to more serious head or spinal trauma, depending on the speed and positioning of the vehicles at the time. Recovery from these injuries can take weeks or months and usually involves ongoing medical care.

In New Jersey, a personal injury claim generally must be filed within two years, and the state follows a modified comparative negligence rule, in which a person found more than 50 percent at fault cannot recover damages. Truck collision claims can also involve federal trucking regulations, driver logs, and data from a truck's onboard systems, which a truck accident lawyer can help review to understand how fault might be assessed.

Truck collision claims can raise complicated questions for anyone involved, especially when a commercial vehicle is part of the picture. At Metro Law, we are available to go over the details of your case and explain what legal options may apply under New Jersey law.

Compensation can potentially cover medical expenses, lost income, or other losses tied to the crash. You can reach Metro Law at (800) 469-6476 to talk through your questions with our team.
