Newark, NJ – 16-Year-Old Killed in Crash on Central Ave near First St
Newark, NJ (November 14, 2023) – A teenager lost their life in a fatal traffic accident in Newark on Friday, November 10. The incident occurred shortly before 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of Central Avenue and First Street, according to information from local authorities. The unidentified teen was riding in a vehicle that was stolen from Irvington a short time before the accident occurred.
The teen who was driving the vehicle fled the scene on foot, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Preliminary reports show the stolen passenger car was involved in a crash with a garbage truck at the intersection. The driver of the garbage truck was not hurt in the accident.
Three passengers, all teenagers, were transported to University Hospital in Newark. The teenager who lost their life was pronounced deceased shortly before 5:00 a.m. on Friday. The t other teenagers were treated for injuries considered non-life-threatening. Authorities in Newark continue to investigate the details of the collision.
