Car Accidents in New Jersey

Kearny, NJ – Crash on NJ Turnpike Eastern Spur Injures at Least OneAcross New Jersey, busy roads like the Turnpike are frequent sites of collisions. In 2022, more than 278,000 vehicle crashes were reported across the state, including many on major highways. These accidents often result in serious injuries and costly damage.

When a crash happens, understanding vehicle damage and repair options can make recovery less stressful. Here’s what victims should keep in mind:

  • Towing and Storage Fees: After a crash, your car may be towed to a lot. These locations charge daily storage fees, so arrange pickup or move the car to a body shop quickly to avoid extra costs.

  • Total Loss Determinations: If the repair cost is higher than the car’s value, insurers may declare it a total loss. Make sure to check the market value of your vehicle to verify the insurer’s offer.

  • Using Your Own Repair Shop: You have the right to choose where your vehicle is repaired, even if your insurer recommends a specific location. Independent shops may offer different quality or pricing.

  • OEM vs. Aftermarket Parts: Original equipment manufacturer parts may cost more but often fit better and perform longer than aftermarket options. Check your policy and talk with the repair shop.

  • Diminished Value Claims: After repairs, your car may lose resale value due to its accident history. In some cases, you may be eligible to file a diminished value claim with your insurer.
