Parsippany, NJ – Sanitation Worker Seriously Injured After Being Pinned Between Garbage Truck and Car on Vail Rd & Arnold Dr

Parsippany, NJ (April 30, 2026) – A sanitation worker suffered serious injuries Tuesday morning, April 28, after being pinned between a garbage truck and a car on Vail Road and Arnold Drive in Parsippany. Emergency units responded around 7 a.m. following reports of an accident involving a garbage truck.

Anthony Shandra, 48, was loading trash into the rear of the garbage truck when a Nissan Altima struck him from behind. The impact pinned Shandra between the two vehicles, crushing him in the process.

First responders arrived and provided life-saving care at the scene. Shandra was rushed to Morristown Medical Center, where he is being treated for severe injuries to his lower extremities.

The Nissan was driven by a 29-year-old man who remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The Parsippany Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the crash.

Our thoughts remain with Anthony Shandra and his family as he receives care and works toward recovery.

What Evidence Should I Preserve After a Work Injury in New Jersey?Sanitation Worker Seriously Injured After Being Pinned Between Garbage Truck and Car on Vail Rd & Arnold Dr

After a work injury in New Jersey, the most important step is to preserve as much evidence as possible from the scene and the moments that follow. This includes photos of the location where the injury occurred, the vehicles or equipment involved, and any visible injuries. If there were witnesses present, collecting their names and contact information can also be valuable.

Medical records are among the most critical pieces of evidence in a work injury case. Seeking treatment promptly after an accident creates a documented link between the incident and the injuries sustained. Keeping records of every medical visit, diagnosis, prescribed medication, and follow-up appointment helps build a clear picture of how the injury has affected daily life and the ability to work.

Work-related documentation also plays an important role. This includes incident reports filed with an employer, any written communication about the accident, and records of missed workdays or reduced hours. Pay stubs and employment records may help establish the financial impact of the injury over time.

In cases like this one, where a third party — such as another driver — may have contributed to the injury, additional evidence becomes relevant. Dashcam footage, traffic camera recordings, and the official police or accident report can all help clarify what happened.

A worker’s compensation lawyer can explain what types of compensation may be available under both workers’ compensation and a potential third-party claim, and can help determine which documents matter most in your specific situation.
