Stafford, NJ – Kevin Scoda Killed in Crash on Hwy 72 near Milepost 24.5

Stafford, NJ (July 24, 2024) – A motor vehicle accident happened in Stafford on July 20. At around 7:45 p.m., the wreck occurred on State Highway 72 near milepost 24.5. Two passenger vehicles collided under circumstances still being investigated by police. A 2018 Subaru operated by 26-year-old Justin Layer, a resident of Barnegat, was headed east on Highway 72 when a 2023 Chevrolet Corvette operated by 24-year-old Kevin Scoda collided with him. Scoda is a New Jersey resident. Scoda’s vehicle went out of control and veered off of the road before crashing into a utility pole. It then caught fire. Good Samaritans helped him out of the vehicle before police arrived, but he later lost his life at the hospital due to the extent of his injuries. Traffic delays ensued on Highway 72, particularly in the eastbound lane. Police continue to investigate the details of the wreck.
