Town of Clayton, NY – Two Injured in Head-On Collision on Rte 12 Near Depauville

Town of Clayton, NY (January 28, 2026) – A head-on accident during dangerous white-out weather sent two people to the hospital on Tuesday, January 27, in Jefferson County. The crash happened shortly before 11:00 a.m. on Route 12 just outside of Depauville in the town of Clayton.

The New York State Police said the driver of an SUV crossed into the opposite lane and struck a pickup truck head-on. Troopers reported that heavy snow and near-zero visibility made driving conditions extremely difficult at the time of the crash.

A third vehicle approached the scene and attempted to avoid the accident. Officials said the driver lost control and skidded off the road. Police have not reported injuries involving that vehicle.

Emergency units responded quickly to help those involved. The drivers of both the SUV and the pickup truck suffered injuries and were taken to Samaritan Medical Center for treatment. Authorities have not released details about the severity of their injuries.

Authorities continue to actively investigate the accident.

We hope for a swift and full recovery for both drivers.

Most Important Documents to Keep After a Car Accident in New York Two Injured in Head-On Collision on Rte 12 Near Depauville

After a car accident in New York, the most crucial documents include the police report, medical records, insurance paperwork, and any proof of accident-related expenses. These records help explain what happened, support injury treatment, and make it easier to handle insurance claims. Keeping everything organized early can prevent confusion later.

Medical documentation often plays one of the biggest roles in injury accidents. Hospital discharge papers, follow-up instructions, and billing statements can show the type of care received and how recovery progresses. People may not notice symptoms right away, so continued medical records can also help track injuries over time.

Insurance and accident-related paperwork also matter. Claim numbers, adjuster communication, and repair estimates provide a clearer picture of the financial impact. Photos of the vehicles, the roadway, and visible injuries can add additional support when questions come up about the crash.

A car accident attorney can help victims make sense of the paperwork that follows a crash, from medical files to insurance forms. Legal support may also be useful when questions come up about claim timelines, communication with insurers, or how injury-related costs are documented. An attorney can explain what options may exist, depending on the circumstances.
