Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in New Jersey

Pedestrian Fatally Struck at New Willow St & Jennett St

Pedestrian crashes are some of the most devastating accidents on New Jersey roads. Without the protection of a vehicle, pedestrians face a high risk of severe or fatal injuries when struck by a car.

For families, the loss is not only emotional but also financial, leaving them with medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of future income.

When a pedestrian accident results in a fatality, surviving family members may have the right to file a wrongful death claim. This type of legal action allows them to pursue compensation for damages such as:

  • Medical expenses – Costs of emergency treatment and care provided before the victim’s passing. These expenses can quickly add up and place unexpected strain on grieving families. In some cases, insurance may not fully cover the costs, leaving survivors with large bills. Seeking compensation can help relieve this burden so families can focus on healing.
  • Funeral and burial costs – Financial help to cover funeral services and related expenses. Families deserve to honor their loved ones without overwhelming financial worry. Funeral and burial services in New Jersey can cost thousands of dollars, creating added stress during a time of mourning. Compensation ensures that families can provide a dignified farewell without sacrificing their financial security.
  • Loss of income – Compensation for the wages and financial support the victim would have provided. This helps secure financial stability for dependents left behind. When a loved one is the primary earner, their sudden loss can place the household in financial jeopardy. Wrongful death claims can account for both present and future lost earnings, helping families maintain stability.
  • Loss of companionship – Damages for the emotional suffering and absence of a loved one. The loss of guidance, comfort, and support can never truly be replaced. Spouses, children, and parents often face deep emotional trauma when losing a loved one. Compensation acknowledges this emotional harm and the lasting effect it has on daily life.
  • Pain and suffering – Recovery for the victim’s suffering before their passing, in some cases. This acknowledges the physical and emotional toll endured during their final moments. These damages seek to recognize what the victim endured between the time of injury and death. They provide a measure of justice for the harm suffered before life was tragically cut short.

Pursuing a wrongful death claim not only helps families manage the financial burden but also holds negligent drivers accountable. An experienced wrongful death attorney can guide families through the process and ensure their rights are fully protected.
