Rochester, NY (June 26, 2026) – Two people died, and a third was injured on early Friday morning, June 26, in a multi-vehicle wreck on the Inner Loop, according to New York State Police.
The crash happened around 1:26 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near the St. Paul Street overpass. A Honda CR-V traveling against traffic struck a Ford Fusion head-on.
The Ford's driver and front-seat passenger, both 21-year-old men, were pronounced dead at the scene. The impact pushed the Ford into a Jeep Liberty, injuring its driver, who was evaluated at the scene and taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Honda, a 39-year-old woman, was unresponsive when troopers arrived and was also hospitalized. She remains in critical condition.
Autopsies have been ordered, and the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the wreck.
We extend our sincere condolences to the families of the two young men who lost their lives.

When a wrong-way crash results in death, the surviving family members can pursue a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver and, in some cases, against a third party if road design or signage contributed to the confusion that led a driver onto the wrong side of the highway.
Under New York law, a personal representative of each deceased victim's estate has two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death action, separate from a survival claim covering pain and suffering before death.
New York also follows a pure comparative negligence rule; even if a victim were found partially at fault, compensation would only be reduced rather than barred entirely, though that's unlikely to be a major issue here given the head-on nature of the impact.
Because evidence like toxicology results and the Collision Reconstruction Unit's findings will take time to finalize, a wrongful death lawyer can begin working independently to preserve vehicle data and witness accounts in the meantime.
