West Windsor, NJ (June 3, 2025) – A serious multi-vehicle collision on Old Trenton Road in West Windsor led to injuries and significant disruptions on Saturday afternoon, May 31. Emergency crews, including the Division of Fire & Emergency Services, the Patrol Division, and the Traffic Unit, responded to the accident at approximately 3:35 p.m.
Authorities reported that a 35-year-old Trenton resident was driving a 2015 Jeep Cherokee southbound when the vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic. It first clipped the rear driver’s side of a 2020 Honda Fit, operated by a 37-year-old Fieldsboro woman who had three juvenile passengers with her. Thankfully, she and the children were unharmed. The Jeep then continued in the wrong direction and collided head-on with a 2011 Lincoln MKZ Sedan driven by a 38-year-old West Trenton man. After the collision, the Jeep veered off the road, hitting a utility pole before coming to a stop. A fire erupted in the Jeep’s engine compartment but was extinguished by a good Samaritan who quickly left the scene.
The crash brought down live power lines across Old Trenton Road, prompting PSE&G crews to cut electricity so that emergency personnel could safely manage the scene. The road remained closed for nearly eight hours. Both the Jeep and Lincoln drivers were treated by EMS at the scene and transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials continue to investigate the crash and have not yet released the names of those involved.
We hope those injured in this crash recover swiftly.
Car Accidents in New Jersey
Car accidents are unfortunately common in New Jersey, with thousands of collisions reported each year on its busy roads and highways. While efforts to improve road safety have seen some progress, head-on collisions and multi-vehicle accidents remain significant concerns due to their often serious consequences. Public safety campaigns and infrastructure improvements are vital to reducing these incidents and protecting motorists throughout the state.
Understanding more about the common causes of car accidents can help drivers stay safer on the roads. Here are some typical factors:
-
Driver Fatigue: Tired drivers can have slower reaction times and impaired judgment, leading to a higher likelihood of accidents, especially during long trips or at night.
-
Weather Conditions: Rain, snow, fog, and ice significantly affect road safety. Wet or slippery conditions can make vehicles harder to control and extend stopping distances.
-
Aggressive Driving: Speeding, tailgating, and weaving through traffic are all examples of aggressive driving, which endangers everyone on the road.
-
Mechanical Failures: Problems like brake failures, tire blowouts, or steering malfunctions can result in accidents if regular vehicle maintenance is neglected.
-
Poor Road Conditions: Potholes, faded lane markings, and inadequate signage can contribute to driver error and crashes, especially in less visible areas.
