Wheatfield, NY (August 9, 2024) – A serious multi-vehicle collision in Wheatfield has left six people injured, prompting a large-scale emergency response on Friday afternoon, August 9. The accident occurred around 1:45 p.m. on Lockport Road near Walmore Road, leading to significant disruptions and road closures in the area.
According to the NFTA Police, the crash was triggered when a Sprinter Van attempted to pass a Chevy Cruze on the right side of the road. In the process, the van collided with the car, causing the Chevy to spin into oncoming traffic, where it struck an NFTA bus head-on. The impact of the crash was severe, resulting in the driver of the van being ejected from the vehicle. Emergency responders quickly transported the van’s driver to ECMC with serious injuries. Additionally, two passengers on the bus and the bus driver were also injured and taken to ECMC for medical treatment.
Authorities closed Lockport Road in both directions between Walmore and Ward Road to allow for the investigation and cleanup of the crash site. NITTEC reported that the road remained closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage and assess the situation.
