Hudson Co., NJ – 2 Hurt in Serious Car Crash on Tonnelle Ave Near 51st St

Hudson County, NJ (September 29, 2025) – A violent two-car crash on Sunday night, September 28, left multiple people injured and shut down major roadways leading to the Lincoln Tunnel.

The accident occurred just before 11:30 p.m. on Tonnelle Avenue near 51st Street. Authorities confirmed that two vehicles collided with significant force, leaving both cars completely destroyed. Debris, including car parts and soccer balls, scattered across the roadway.

Police shut down all lanes of Route 1&9 and Tonnelle Avenue in both directions north of 44th Street. Crews quickly set up detours to redirect traffic around the crash scene.

Witnesses nearby said they heard a loud crash and saw firefighters rush to the area. First responders worked quickly to pull victims from the wrecked vehicles. Four people were involved in the collision, and at least two were transported to a local hospital with injuries. Officials have not yet released updates on their conditions.

The Hudson County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the cause of this serious collision.
