Trenton, NJ (September 30, 2025) – A man riding a scooter suffered life-threatening injuries early Sunday, September 28, after being struck and dragged by a vehicle in Trenton.
Police said the crash happened around 4:15 a.m. in front of 64 Oakland Street. When officers arrived, they found a 32-year-old resident bleeding from his ears. Emergency responders rushed him to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where doctors determined he had multiple fractures and a collapsed lung. He remains in critical but stable condition and has been placed on a ventilator.
Investigators explained that the man was traveling on Oakland Street toward Mellon Street when a car approached from the opposite direction. In an effort to avoid a head-on collision, the scooter rider swerved but fell under the vehicle. The car ran over him, dragging him a short distance before fleeing toward Prospect Street.
The Trenton Police Department confirmed that the driver left the scene without stopping. Detectives continue to search for the suspect vehicle.
Authorities continue their active investigation into this serious hit-and-run crash.
Our thoughts are with the injured man, and we hope he makes a full recovery.
Hit-and-Run Accidents in New Jersey

Hit-and-run accidents are among the most devastating types of traffic collisions. Victims often face serious injuries without immediate medical aid, while families are left searching for answers. In New Jersey, hit-and-run crashes are a growing concern on both busy roads and smaller neighborhood streets.
The injuries from these accidents can be catastrophic. Victims may experience:
- Spinal injuries that lead to long-term mobility issues or paralysis.
- Broken bones, such as rib and femur fractures, that require surgery and rehabilitation.
- Collapsed lungs or internal injuries, which can be life-threatening without rapid treatment.
- Head trauma that may cause lasting cognitive and emotional challenges.
When drivers flee the scene, victims and their families face even greater difficulties. Beyond the physical pain, there are emotional and financial challenges, including steep medical bills, lost wages, and uncertainty about recovery.
In these situations, working with an experienced personal injury attorney is critical. A lawyer can coordinate with investigators, gather evidence, and help victims pursue the compensation they need for medical care, rehabilitation, and ongoing support. Legal guidance also ensures that victims’ rights are protected, even when the at-fault driver has not yet been identified.
