Newark, NJ (May 4, 2026) – A United Airlines flight clipped a delivery truck on the New Jersey Turnpike near Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday, May 3, sending the truck driver to the hospital. The incident happened as United Flight 169 was approaching the airport after a nine-hour flight from Venice, Italy.

New Jersey State police confirmed the truck driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Dashcam footage captured the moment the plane struck the vehicle, showing the force of the impact.

Airport staff inspected the runway following the accident and resumed normal operations shortly after. Minor damage to the aircraft was observed. United’s maintenance team began evaluating the plane, and the crew was removed from service pending a flight safety investigation.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are leading the investigation into the crash. A preliminary report is expected within 30 days.

. The investigation remains ongoing as federal authorities work to determine the cause of the incident.

Our thoughts are with the truck driver as he recovers from his injuries.

Who Pays for Medical Bills After an Accident in New Jersey?Delivery Truck Driver Hurt After United Airlines Flight Clips Vehicle on NJ Trnpk

After an accident in New Jersey, medical bills are typically covered first through your own auto insurance policy under the state’s no-fault system. This means that regardless of who caused the crash, your Personal Injury Protection coverage, commonly known as PIP, pays for initial medical expenses. Understanding how this works can help injured people take the right steps early on.

PIP coverage in New Jersey generally applies to medical treatment, follow-up care, and some lost wages depending on your policy. However, PIP has limits, and serious injuries can quickly exceed those amounts. When that happens, additional options may become available depending on the circumstances of the accident and the severity of the injuries involved.

In cases where another party’s negligence contributed to the crash, a person may be eligible to seek compensation beyond what PIP covers. This can include damages related to ongoing medical treatment, long-term care needs, or income lost during recovery. New Jersey law allows certain injured people to step outside the no-fault system when injuries meet a specific threshold of severity. A Newark personal injury attorney can review the details of a case and explain whether that threshold may apply.

Keeping thorough records after any accident helps clarify how medical costs are being covered and what gaps may exist. Bills, treatment notes, insurance correspondence, and records of missed work all provide useful information when evaluating available options. A lawyer can help organize that information and explain how it applies to your specific situation.
