June 22, 2026

Independence Twp, NJ (June 22, 2026) – One motorcyclist died, and another was hurt on Sunday evening, June 21, in a crash near Route 517. The Warren County Fire and emergency units were called to the area around 6:05 p.m. for a report of two motorcyclists down. At least one person had serious injuries.

A medevac was initially requested to fly to the scene. Responders began CPR on one person shortly after arriving. However, the medevac was canceled minutes later after a fatality was confirmed.

It is not clear what led to the wreck or the identities of those involved.

Our condolences go out to the family of the motorcyclist who died, and we hope for a full recovery for the survivor.

What Damages Can a Family Recover After a Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Independence Twp, NJ?Two Motorcyclists Down in Crash Near Rt-517 in Independence Twp, NJ

Families who lose a loved one in a motorcycle crash can generally pursue several categories of damages under New Jersey's Wrongful Death Act, including the income the rider would have earned over their expected working years, the value of services and support they provided at home, and the loss of companionship that comes with losing a parent, spouse, or sibling.

Funeral and burial expenses are also recoverable, along with any medical costs incurred between the crash and the time of death, which in cases that involve CPR or a medevac response can include emergency treatment that was billed even though it didn't ultimately save the rider's life. A separate survival action can allow recovery for the rider's pain and suffering during that window, distinct from the wrongful death claim itself.

For a surviving passenger or rider, damages can include current and future medical expenses, lost wages during recovery, and compensation for pain and suffering tied to injuries like road rash, fractures, or head trauma.

New Jersey's two-year filing deadline applies to both the wrongful death claim and any personal injury claim from a survivor, and having the police report and any responder documentation reviewed early can help a wrongful death lawyer build a strong claim before memories fade or records become harder to obtain.
