Can a Pedestrian's Family File a Wrongful Death Claim in Ridgefield, NJ?Elderly Man Killed in Pedestrian Wreck on Broad Ave

Yes. Under New Jersey's Wrongful Death Act, a deceased person's spouse, children, or other dependents can pursue a claim through the estate's personal representative to recover for the financial support and companionship they lost.

Families in cases like this frequently face funeral and burial costs on top of the emotional toll of losing a loved one suddenly. When a fatality happens at night, questions about lighting, crosswalk visibility, and whether either party had the right of way frequently become central to determining what happened.

New Jersey allows two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death claim, and evidence such as the bus's data recorder, witness statements, and the forensic findings gathered at the intersection can play a significant role in establishing what occurred. A wrongful death lawyer can help a family request and preserve this evidence before it's lost, particularly when a commercial vehicle is involved.

At Metro Law, we work with families across New Jersey to help them walk through the legal aftermath of a fatal accident. Our team can help review the available evidence and explain what a wrongful death claim might involve under state law.

Every case has its own deadlines, and understanding them early can make a real difference. If your family has questions, you can contact Metro Law at (800) 469-6476.
