Albany, NY (December 2, 2025) – A deadly crash on the New York State Thruway near Exit 24 left one person dead and eight others hurt on Monday, December 1. Police said the collision happened around 6:45 p.m. as a car tried to enter the highway from an acceleration ramp. A second vehicle then struck that car before it could fully merge.
Emergency crews arrived quickly and transported victims to Albany Medical Center. Doctors pronounced the driver of the merging car dead at the hospital. Authorities have not released the person’s name yet because they want to notify the family first.
The crash also injured eight other people from both vehicles. Police said the injured included five adults and three children. Medical staff treated them for injuries, though officials have not shared details about their conditions.
Investigators have not explained what caused the collision.
Albany Police are still investigating the crash.
Our hearts go out to the loved ones grieving this sudden loss, and we also hope those injured heal fully.
Car Accidents in New York
Serious crashes on major highways can change lives in moments. Merging areas, especially near busy exits, often create fast decisions for drivers. When a collision leads to a death and multiple injuries, families face both emotional shock and real financial strain. In these situations, the law may allow victims and relatives to seek compensation through insurance claims or a lawsuit.
Possible compensation after a crash like this may include:
- Emergency medical care, hospital stays, and surgery costs
- Follow-up treatment, physical therapy, and rehabilitation
- Future medical needs, including long-term care for head or spine injuries
- Lost wages from missing work during recovery
- Reduced earning ability if someone cannot return to the same job
- Pain and suffering tied to physical injuries and trauma
- Costs for vehicle repair or replacement and related expenses
- Support for children who suffered injuries, including specialized care
- Funeral and burial expenses for the family of the person who died
- Loss of financial support and companionship in a Wrongful Death claim
Each case depends on the facts. More than one party may share responsibility, which can affect how a claim moves forward. A car accident lawyer can gather records, review police findings, and work with experts if needed. They can also handle insurer negotiations, so families do not face pressure while grieving or healing. Acting early often helps protect evidence, including crash scene details, vehicle data, and witness statements.
