Brooklyn, NY – Scooter Rider Dies at Flushing Ave & Cypress Ave

Brooklyn, NY (August 20, 2024) – A fatal accident involving a scooter rider occurred on Tuesday morning, August 20, in Brooklyn, resulting in the death of the rider and a subsequent fuel spill that required a hazardous materials response.

According to the NYPD, the incident took place around 9 a.m. near the intersection of Flushing Avenue and Cypress Avenue. The 29-year-old scooter rider reportedly collided with a box truck. Despite wearing a helmet, the rider succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding FDNY personnel. The 26-year-old driver of the truck remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

In addition to the tragic loss of life, the collision caused a significant fuel spill, prompting the response of Hazmat crews to clean the area and ensure public safety. Local law enforcement officials are currently investigating the incident.
