Carlstadt, NJ – Wrong-Way Crash on Rt 17 Leads to Injuries and DWI Arrest

Carlstadt, NJ (June 9, 2025) – Early Sunday morning, a serious head-on collision took place on Route 17 near Route 120, leaving several people injured and leading to the arrest of one driver.

Authorities responded to the crash around 1:45 a.m. on June 8 after receiving calls about a multi-vehicle accident involving a wrong-way driver. When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found multiple vehicles with significant damage scattered across the roadway. Paramedics treated at least a few individuals for injuries; fortunately, none were deemed life-threatening, and the victims were transported to nearby hospitals for further medical attention.

Investigators with the Carlstadt Police Department later determined that a woman was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 17 at the time of the accident. During the investigation, the driver reportedly admitted to officers that she had been drinking at an event earlier that night and was on her way home. As a result, she was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Authorities remained at the scene for several hours conducting their investigation and clearing the wreckage. Traffic in the area was delayed until the site was safely cleared. The crash remains under investigation by the Carlstadt Police Department.

We extend our thoughts to everyone affected by this accident and hope for a swift recovery for those who were injured.

Understanding the potential consequences of a car accident can help drivers stay informed and cautious. Here’s a look at some common injuries resulting from accidents:

  • Concussions: Head injuries like concussions are frequent in vehicle crashes, even if the impact seems minor. Symptoms such as headaches, confusion, and dizziness might take hours or even days to emerge.
  • Internal Injuries: Internal bleeding or organ damage can occur without obvious external injuries. These injuries are often serious and require immediate medical evaluation and treatment.
