New York Pedestrian Crashes
In the United States, over 40,000 people lose their lives every single year in car crashes. About 17% of those fatalities are pedestrians. In the United States, a pedestrian loses their life approximately once every 66 minutes. From 2020 to 2021, the number of reported pedestrian accident fatalities in the US increased by about 12%. Most car accidents happen because of negligent driving, and, over half of pedestrian crashes are caused by the actions of a negligent driver. Especially in the past decade, driver negligence has become a serious and dangerous issue throughout the country, causing over 94% of all reported auto accidents. This is most likely because the majority of people cannot go even 10 minutes without looking at their cell phones.
Even if they are behind the wheel of a moving vehicle on a busy road, some drivers still feel the need to pull out their phones and stare at the screen. Even if it is for five seconds, they are placing themselves and those around them at serious risk for severe injuries or even death. No matter who is calling or texting, it can wait until you are in a safe and secure location.
When a car accident happens because of a negligent driver, anyone who sustains injuries in that accident is eligible for financial compensation. If the worst has happened, and someone has lost their life, their family members are able to file a wrongful death claim for financial compensation as well.
