June 30, 2026

Queens, NY (June 30, 2026) – Two people died after a coach bus collided with multiple vehicles on the Long Island Expressway late Monday night, June 29.

The wreck happened before midnight near Exit 16 at Greenpoint Avenue. The bus carried 15 Royal Jordanian Airlines crew members and headed to John F. Kennedy International Airport. The vehicle was traveling west when it struck two vehicles, flipped over the median, and crossed into oncoming traffic, where it hit two more vehicles, officials said.

The bus driver and one crew member were pronounced dead. Other passengers on the bus and the drivers of the additional vehicles involved were taken to area hospitals. One driver remains in critical condition.

The cause of the crash is still being examined by the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad

Our deepest sympathies go out to the families of those who lost their lives.

How Does Liability Work in a Multi-Vehicle Bus Crash on the LIE in Queens, NY?

Coach Bus Crash Kills Two on LIE

A crash that involves a commercial coach bus and several other vehicles can involve more than one potentially liable party, since fault may rest with the bus driver, the bus company, or another motorist whose actions contributed to the chain of events.

New York follows a pure comparative negligence rule, which means an injured person can recover damages even if they were partly at fault, with their award reduced by their percentage of responsibility.

Commercial bus operators are subject to federal motor carrier safety regulations covering driver hours, vehicle maintenance, and training, and a violation of these standards can become an important factor in determining fault.

People hurt in crashes like this one may face hospital stays, extended physical therapy, and time away from work, while families of those who died are left handling funeral costs and the sudden loss of a loved one.

Because commercial carriers usually have layers of insurance coverage, including coverage well beyond what a standard driver carries, untangling which policies apply can take time. A wrongful death lawyer can work to identify every available source of coverage and preserve evidence specific to commercial vehicles.

Crucial evidence in commercial vehicle crashes includes black box data, driver logs, and maintenance records, and it is important to gather it before that information is lost. New York allows two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death claim, and survival actions may also be available for a victim's estate.

At Metro Law, we know the uncertainty that families face after a crash of this scale. We can help review the specific details of the case and explain how New York's comparative negligence and wrongful death laws may apply.
