Bicycle Accidents in New Jersey

Cyclists face significant risks on New Jersey roadways, especially in areas with heavy traffic. Even when riders wear helmets and follow safety rules, they remain vulnerable to serious injuries in collisions with cars. Unlike drivers, cyclists have no protective barrier, which means even a minor impact can cause devastating harm.
Hit-and-run crashes involving bicycles add an extra layer of difficulty. Victims not only face physical injuries but also uncertainty about who caused the accident. Without immediate identification of the driver, pursuing compensation becomes more complex. Police must rely on eyewitnesses, traffic cameras, and forensic evidence to locate the responsible party.
In accidents like this recent one, cyclists may suffer a wide range of injuries, such as:
- Traumatic brain injuries from head impacts
- Fractured arms, legs, or ribs
- Internal bleeding or organ damage
- Deep cuts and lacerations from pavement contact
- Back and spinal cord injuries that can limit mobility
These injuries often require lengthy hospital stays, surgeries, and physical therapy. Recovery can take months, leaving victims with financial stress from medical bills and lost wages. Families also experience emotional strain as they care for their loved ones during the healing process.
When a driver flees the scene, victims may feel powerless. However, legal protections exist. An efficient personal injury attorney can help victims explore every option for justice and compensation. This may include pursuing claims through the driver’s insurance once identified or through the victim’s own uninsured motorist coverage.
Attorneys can also work closely with investigators, review available evidence, and build a strong case for accountability. Beyond financial recovery, pursuing legal action often gives victims and their families peace of mind, knowing the responsible party is being held to account.
