Hackensack, NJ (August 2, 2024) – Early on Friday morning, August 2, a severe accident resulted in a car overturning and an electric pole being knocked down. The incident happened around 7 a.m. at the junction of Polifly Road and Route 80.
Emergency crews, including Engine 2, Rescue 1, and Deputy 3, swiftly responded to the scene. Firefighters arrived to discover two vehicles involved in the collision, with one car flipped over and live wires from the fallen electric pole creating a significant hazard.
The driver of the overturned vehicle managed to extricate themselves before the fire department’s arrival. Firefighters provided immediate first aid and worked diligently to secure the scene, with assistance from the Hackensack Police Department (HPD). As a precaution, one person involved in the crash was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center. Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G) was summoned to address the live wires and secure the power, allowing the safe removal of the overturned vehicle.
The precise cause of the accident is still being investigated, and no additional injuries have been reported thus far. Authorities have advised drivers to steer clear of the area as the operation to clear the scene is anticipated to be prolonged.
