New York Pedestrian Accidents
In New York, tens of thousands of car accidents happen each and every year. These accidents happen for a multitude of different reasons, however, the main reason is driver negligence. Pedestrian crashes alone take the lives of more than 5,000 people per year. Driver negligence is the main cause of pedestrian crashes and other types of accidents and has become a serious and problematic issue in the United States. Each year, there are about 6 million car crashes reported in the US, the majority of which are caused by negligent drivers.
Car accident injuries usually range from mild bruises and scrapes to life-threatening conditions. However, when people are injured in pedestrian crashes, they often sustain injuries that are much more severe. In 2021, over 100,000 car wrecks were reported throughout the state of New York. New York City alone sees more than 100,000 auto collisions annually. Speeding and distraction are currently the leading causes of car accidents. Speeding is the reason behind approximately 11,000 deaths that happened across the United States each year.
Numerous forms of negligent driving exist, however, the most prevalent forms include distraction, intoxication, speeding, and fatigue. For example, over 100,000 car crashes happen every single year because of drivers who are overtired at the wheel. Driving while fatigued is equivalent to driving while intoxicated, being that your judgment becomes impaired, your reaction times are reduced, and you become unable to react accordingly if an accident does occur. Additionally, driver distraction causes more than 400,000 auto accidents per year which end in fatalities for about 3,000 people. The majority of pedestrian collisions in New York and throughout the US are caused by distracted drivers.
