Hope Township, NJ – Fatal Motorcycle Accident During Police Pursuit
Hope Township, NJ (August 14, 2024) – The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is conducting an investigation into a fatal collision that occurred during a police pursuit yesterday in Hope Township, Warren County. The tragic incident involved an SUV and a motorcycle, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist.
According to preliminary reports, the incident began around 10:19 a.m. when a New Jersey State Trooper initiated a pursuit of an SUV traveling eastbound on Route 80 near milepost 11. The SUV continued to evade the trooper, exiting the interstate at Exit 12 onto County Road 521 southbound. As the SUV attempted to pass another vehicle near Dogwood Road, it collided with a motorcycle traveling in the same direction. The impact ejected the motorcyclist from the bike, leading to fatal injuries. Despite immediate medical attention, the rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased motorcyclist has not been released. Following the collision, the SUV veered off the road and came to a stop in a wooded area. The driver of the SUV was transported to Hackettstown Medical Center for a medical evaluation and was later taken into custody by the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office. He is currently being held at the Warren County Jail as the investigation continues.
