Does Auto Insurance Cover Pedestrian Injuries in New Jersey?Pedestrian Struck at E Veterans Hwy & Royal Grove Dr

In New Jersey, auto insurance can cover pedestrian injuries. The state operates under a no-fault insurance system, which means that a pedestrian hurt in a traffic crash may be able to access medical benefits through the driver’s auto insurance policy, regardless of who caused the accident. This coverage falls under Personal Injury Protection, commonly known as PIP.

PIP benefits can help pay for medical treatment, rehabilitation, and some lost wages after a crash. In New Jersey, pedestrians who do not own a vehicle may be able to claim PIP benefits through the insurance policy of the car that struck them. The amount of coverage available depends on the specific policy and the coverage limits the driver carries.

Injuries from pedestrian accidents can be serious. Broken bones, head injuries, and soft tissue damage are common outcomes when a person is struck by a vehicle. Some symptoms, such as soreness or cognitive changes, may not appear until hours or days after the collision. Getting a medical evaluation quickly helps document injuries and connects treatment to the accident.

When PIP benefits do not fully cover all expenses, additional legal options may exist. If the driver was at fault, a personal injury claim could allow the injured person to seek further compensation for medical costs, lost income, and other damages. A pedestrian accident lawyer can review the details of the situation and explain what options may apply.
