Katonah, NY – 2 Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash, Truck Overturn on I-684

Katonah, NY (September 5, 2024) – A major crash involving two cars and an overturned truck on Interstate 684 near Goldens Bridge on Thursday afternoon resulted in injuries and hazardous material leaking onto the roadway. The accident, which occurred around 2 p.m. on the southbound lanes just before Exit 6, led to significant traffic delays and required a large emergency response to control both the scene and the spill.

State police confirmed that at least two individuals were injured in the accident and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The incident involved a truck belonging to Vogler Brothers Septic Services, which overturned during the crash, spilling between 200 to 400 gallons of sewage onto the road. Responding quickly, crews from the Goldens Bridge Fire Department managed to contain the spill, preventing it from entering the nearby reservoir system. The DOT came and helped out with traffic control, and they put out a lot of cones to help with the traffic.

In addition to the overturned truck, two passenger vehicles were involved in the crash, with one ending up in the embankment alongside the highway. Volunteer firefighters and emergency responders were on the scene to administer first aid to those injured. Approximately 20 volunteer firefighters from the Goldens Bridge Fire Department worked tirelessly to control the situation. It took crews over two hours to clear the accident, with the truck being successfully righted by 4 p.m.

The southbound lanes remained closed for much of the afternoon, creating significant traffic delays as emergency personnel worked to secure the scene and remove hazardous materials. State police are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident, including whether any driver error or mechanical failure may have contributed to the incident.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims; we hope they recover in a timely manner.
