Manhattan, NY (November 26, 2024) – A serious injury apartment fire broke out in a five-story building at 570 West 204th Street on Tuesday, November 26, resulting in 15 individuals being injured, including one firefighter. The fire, reported around 8:30 AM, caused significant damage and prompted an immediate response from emergency services.

According to the New York City Fire Department (FDNY), the fire started on the first floor of the building, rapidly spreading to other areas. Firefighters managed to knock down the visible flames, but additional support was called in as the operation escalated. The fire was brought under control by 9:55 AM, and all visible flames were extinguished. Despite the efforts, one civilian and one firefighter sustained life-threatening injuries, while one civilian was reported to have serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The remaining individuals suffered from smoke inhalation or minor to moderate injuries.

The FDNY worked relentlessly to extract victims from the building and secure the area. EMS transported all injured individuals to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities redirected traffic around the scene to allow emergency vehicles access, and secondary searches were conducted to ensure no one else was trapped.
