Neptune, NJ – Wesley Moore Jr. Identified as Victim of Fatal Sideswipe Accident on W. Bangs Ave Near Alpine Trl
Neptune, NJ (March 23, 2022) – Police responded to a fatal multi-vehicle accident in Neptune on Monday, March 21st.
At about 8:55 a.m., Neptune Police were dispatched to the scene on West Bangs Avenue, in the area of Alpine Trail. An investigation determined that 84-year-old Wesley Moore Jr., a resident of Asbury Park, was driving a 2020 Nissan Altima westbound on West Bangs Avenue when he was sideswiped by a 2018 Kia Niro, driven by 48-year-old Ariel Vernet, also from Asbury Park.
Due to the force of the impact, Moore’s vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a chain-link fence. Moore died from injuries just a few short hours later. Moore Jr. had two passengers in his vehicle. A woman in the front seat and a young child in the back seat. Both were unharmed in the accident.
Vernet’s vehicle continued westbound where it sideswiped a 2001 Mercury driven by a 42-year-old woman from Neptune, who was then rear-ended by a 2017 GMC Canyon, driven by a 34-year-old man, also from Neptune.
Vernet proceeded to flee the scene but was located later in the day in Asbury Park. He was charged with one count of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision and released on a summons.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Mr. Wesley Moore, Jr., at this time.
Side-Impact Accidents in New Jersey
Proving negligence after a side-impact accident can be contentious because it typically involves a he said/she said situation in which each driver blames the other.
This is especially true in un-witnessed accidents; those where the only testimony about the circumstances surrounding the crash come from the drivers themselves. Thus, calling a defendant’s credibility into question is a cornerstone of your case.
An experienced New Jersey side-impact crash attorney will need to conduct a detailed inquiry of the defendant during their deposition in order to dispute any false claims about which driver failed to exhibit due care. These questions will include factors like time, distance, speed, traffic control devices, and the intersection itself.
