Train-Pedestrian Accidents in Newark
Railroad tracks in Newark are heavily traveled by local and commuter trains each day. While public transit is a vital part of life in the area, it also poses serious safety risks, especially when pedestrians enter restricted zones.
These incidents often happen when individuals access tracks that are not meant for foot traffic. Whether by mistake or during emergencies, these situations can end in tragedy. Some of the leading causes of train-related pedestrian deaths include:
- Trespassing: Walking along or crossing tracks in restricted areas is dangerous and often illegal.
- Limited Barriers: Some locations near transit lines lack proper fencing or signage, making access easier.
- Distraction: Headphones and mobile devices can prevent pedestrians from hearing approaching trains.
- Low Visibility: Poor lighting or fog can make it hard for engineers to see people on the tracks.
- Mental Health Crises: Some fatalities involve individuals experiencing personal emergencies or emotional distress.
In the aftermath of a fatal train accident, grieving families are left with emotional and financial challenges. Depending on the situation, they may have the right to file a wrongful death claim. An experienced attorney can help determine if safety failures, poor signage, or inadequate barriers played a role.
