Queens, NY (September 22, 2025) – A tragic hit-and-run accident claimed the life of a construction worker in Queens on Friday morning, September 19. Police said the worker, identified as 44-year-old Isabel Alvarez, died after being struck while directing traffic near the Nassau Expressway.
The incident happened just before 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of the Nassau Expressway and Van Wyck Expressway. According to investigators, a 25-year-old man driving a 2018 Infiniti Q50S hit Alvarez while she was standing in a designated safety zone between the exit ramp and the eastbound lanes.
Alvarez was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver fled but was later located by authorities near South Conduit Avenue and 134th Street. Police arrested him and charged him with multiple offenses, including leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, assault, reckless driving, and aggravated unlicensed operation.
The New York Police Department said the investigation is ongoing.
