New York Structure Fires
Hundreds of thousands of structure fires happen yearly in the United States. Roughly 354,000 annual building fires are reported throughout the nation per year. Despite the location of a fire, it can be hazardous for everyone involved. People who sustain injuries in large fires often suffer varying degrees of burns and/or smoke inhalation that can land them in the hospital for long periods of time. Averagely speaking, around 2,600 lives are cut short yearly due to being involved in structure fires in the US. Some of the most common causes of New York structure fires include:
- Outdated electrics
- Faulty appliances
- Improperly installed or cracked gas lines
- Defective furnaces/boilers
- Blocked chimney flues
- Negligence of building occupants
After a residential fire, it is vital to figure out whether a third party was responsible in causing it to occur, or if their action or inaction prevented a resident from being able to safely leave the premises.
Some commonly seen elements investigated by a Queens burn injury lawyer include:
- If the property owner/manager adhered to up-to-date fire and safety protocols
- Fireplaces/vents were satisfactorily maintained
- Proper fire safety tools and supplies
- Fire doors were in working condition
- Fire escapes and exits were able to be utilized
- Firewalls were correctly positioned and built
- Smoke detectors were properly functioning
If it is found that a third party contributed to the cause of a structure fire that caused you to become injured, you may have a legitimate claim against them and be able to collect financial compensation for your injuries and damages.
