Car Accidents in New Jersey
New Jersey roadways see thousands of serious crashes every year, with many resulting in fatalities or severe injuries. According to state data, over 500 people lose their lives in car accidents across the state annually. Highways like Interstate 80 are often the sites of dangerous collisions, especially during late-night or early-morning hours when visibility and reaction times can be affected.
Here are some of the most common causes of head-on collisions:
- Wrong-Way Driving – When a driver enters a roadway in the wrong direction, whether due to confusion, impairment, or poor signage, the risk of a head-on crash increases significantly.
- Fatigue and Drowsy Driving – Driving while fatigued can lead to slower reaction times, drifting into oncoming lanes, and difficulty staying focused.
- Distracted Driving – Texting, phone use, or other distractions can cause a driver to swerve into oncoming traffic, leading to devastating crashes.
- Speeding and Reckless Driving – Excessive speed reduces the ability to react to sudden changes in traffic and increases the severity of a collision.
- Impaired Driving – Alcohol and drug use are major contributors to head-on crashes, as they impair judgment, coordination, and reaction time.
