Rutherford, NJ – Three Injured in Series of Accidents on Rt 3 at Berry’s Creek Canal Bridge

Rutherford, NJ (January 10, 2023) – Three people suffered injuries on Saturday morning, January 7, in a series of car accidents in Bergen County. The events unfolded at approximately 9:30 p.m. 

Sources report the wrecks happened in the eastbound lanes of Route Three at the Berry’s Creek Canal Bridge. Police in East Rutherford stated a 2020 GMC stopped behind a disabled 2017 Acura RDX at the bridge. Shortly after, it was rear-ended by a 2023 Honda Accord. The impact of the collision pushed the GMC into the Acura. 

As police responded to the scene, a 2010 Toyota Prius attempted to avoid the scene and was rear-ended. Police stated the driver of the Prius did not sustain injuries, however, the driver who rear-ended the Prius fled the scene. 

Three people from the initial crash sustained injuries and were sent to the hospital. At this time, their names have not been reported. The driver of the Acura was identified as a 62-year-old woman from Carteret who was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center due to complaints of neck and leg pain. 

The driver of the GMC, a Bayonne woman, age 41, suffered leg injuries and was transported to Hudson Regional Hospital in Secaucus. Emergency crews also transported her passenger, a 36-year-old man, to Hudson Regional to be evaluated. 

Currently, authorities in Rutherford continue to investigate the details of the accident.
