Sayreville, NJ – Brooklyn Woman Killed in Parkway Crash

Sayreville, NJ (July 9, 2025) – A fatal collision on the Garden State Parkway in Sayreville left a Brooklyn woman dead early Sunday morning. On July 7, police confirmed that 58-year-old Esther Paz, of Brooklyn, was driving northbound just before 1 a.m. when her vehicle was rear-ended by a 21-year-old man from Livingston. The impact forced both vehicles onto the shoulder, where Paz’s car struck a minivan that was stopped on the side of the road.

Emergency responders arrived and provided aid, but Paz died at the scene. Details about possible injuries to others involved have not been disclosed. It remains unclear if any charges will be filed as police continue to investigate the cause of the crash. Lanes were temporarily closed as the scene was cleared and an investigation was conducted.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact local authorities.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Esther Paz at this time.

Car Accidents in New Jersey

Sayreville, NJ - Brooklyn Woman Killed in Parkway CrashEach year, thousands of crashes happen on busy highways across New Jersey. High-traffic roads like the Garden State Parkway are common sites for serious collisions, many of which result in injuries or fatalities. Drivers must always stay alert, follow posted speed limits, and keep their focus on the road to help reduce the risk of tragedy. Staying informed about what leads to these crashes can help protect everyone who shares the road.

Below are some frequent factors that contribute to car accidents:

  • Distracted Driving: Distractions like texting, eating, or reaching for items inside the car can take a driver’s attention away from the road. Even a few seconds of distraction can cause a collision, especially on high-speed roads.
  • Speeding: Exceeding the speed limit reduces the time available to react to sudden changes in traffic and increases the force of a crash. High speeds often turn minor collisions into serious or fatal accidents.
  • Fatigue: Driving while drowsy is a serious hazard. Fatigue slows reaction time and affects decision-making, increasing the likelihood of drifting between lanes or missing critical cues.
  • Following Too Closely: Tailgating doesn’t allow enough distance to stop safely if the vehicle in front brakes suddenly. Keeping a safe following distance can prevent rear-end crashes.
  • Poor Weather Conditions: Rain, ice, or snow can make roads slick and decrease visibility. Slowing down and adjusting driving habits during bad weather helps reduce the risk of losing control.
