Do School Bus Accident Claims Work Differently in Washington Twp, NJ?

School Bus Involved in Crash on Rte 57

Yes, claims that involve a school bus can involve additional steps because the bus may be owned by the school district or a private contractor, each carrying different insurance and liability rules.

If the bus was operated by a school district, a claim may need to go through New Jersey's Tort Claims Act, which requires a notice of claim to be filed within 90 days, far sooner than the standard two-year deadline for most injury cases.

bus accident lawyer can help determine whether the bus was district-owned or privately contracted, since that distinction affects both the filing deadline and which insurance policy responds first.

People hurt in a bus-involved wreck tend to deal with injuries such as whiplash, shoulder strain, or bruising from the larger vehicle's impact, even at moderate speeds. Since school buses sit higher and are heavier than passenger cars, the forces involved in this kind of collision can differ from a typical two-car crash, sometimes leading to injuries that take a day or two to fully surface.

It can be hard to carry the legal aftermath alone while recovering from injuries. At Metro Law, we are available to help you walk through the legal process and explain what the next steps can make sense based on your case.
